WATER PRINCESS
Beaded Swarvoski crystal top with matching feather skirt.
2007
This Parisian inspired ensemble is made from over 10,000 vintage and modern Swarvoski and dyed chicken feathers and took 8 months to complete. The only fabric used in this entire design is three inches around the waistband.
The base of the skirt I constructed from large turkey tail feathers. Then to ensure the deep texture and depth of a masterful Impressionist painting, Kathy had to individually hand-attach each of the colorfully dyed hen feathers at different angles. Finally to add incredible sparkle the entire skirt was embellished with hundreds of Swarvoski flat black crystals.
The perfectly coordinated and completely fabric-free top is a very complicated weave technique I created using thousands of vintage and modern Swarvoski crystal and Japanese silver-lined beads.
